Capital smart city motorway interchange approval is a moment of pride for society. In a recent Executive Board meeting of the National Highway Authority, the Capital Smart City Islamabad was granted official approval for a motorway interchange at km 332-333 on Islamabad-Lahore Motorway. Before that access point of the Capital Smart City was only from the main Chakri Road, which had too much traffic and crowd.
The society did not have direct access to the M-2 Islamabad-Lahore Motorway. Therefore, the visitors had only the option of entering the society through the Chakri Road access point. However, it required the visitors to drive on a longer route to enter the Capital Smart City. Besides this, since the Chakri road is busy with too much traffic. The National Highway Authority (NHA) was established in 1991 through an act of the Parliament for the planning, development, operation, repair, and maintenance of national highways and strategic roads. Specially entrusted to National Highway Authority by the Federal Government or by a Provincial Government or other authority concerned. The top hierarchy meeting of the NHA is called the Executive Board meeting.
The NHA Executive Board meeting approves proposals, schemes, and projects budgeted between Rs 50-100 million. In addition, the NHA Executive Board meeting also considers projects through the Ministry to CDWP or ECNEC exceeding Rs 100 million.

How does NHA approve the motorway interchanges?
National Highway Authority has certain pre-conditions for approving the request for interchanges. There are some requirements to approve motorway interchanges. Like, NHA does not permit the approval of a interchange within 10 km of an existing interchange. After carefully viewing this condition, the NHA allows interchange for access to (or) from Motorway/expressway/link road. For formal approval of the interchange, the NHA has certain conditions.
For instance, the entity should apply for proper permission after completing 75% of the infrastructure development. Furthermore, there should be adequate land for constructing the interchange in the name of the National Highway Authority without any cost to NHA.
