Rawalpindi Ring Road is one of the  biggest infrastructure projects in the city’s history. It is a 38 to 40-kilometer-long major six-lane road, planned to solve many traffic problems, and connect different parts of Rawalpindi and Islamabad. The road will connect the GT Road near Rawat to the Thalian Interchange near Islamabad Airport, and also link to areas like Chakbeli, Chakri, and Adyala Road.

The Rawalpindi Ring Road project is being developed under the supervision of the Punjab Government, RDA, as the main stakeholder.

As the development continues, Faisal Town Phase 2 housing society will be the greatest beneficiary of the RRR Project plan. Besides, Capital Smart City and DHA River View South, falling along the route, are going to experience a huge rise in demand and prices.

About the Developers

The Rawalpindi Ring Road Project is currently overseen by the Rawalpindi Development Authority (RDA). The project plan was passed under the GoP, via the Punjab Planning and Development Wing (PPDW).

The design and route of RRR were created by Botek JV, a Turkish consulting firm. Currently, it involves multiple development partners and stakeholders such as the National Highway Authority (NHA) and the Frontier Works Organization (FWO).

Rawalpindi Ring Road Development Update – 2025

As of August 2025, a key part of the project got approved, that is, the 3.8 km road segment from DHA Phase 3 to AWT Plaza Sangjani. This section will be developed jointly by CDA and NHA collectively.

  • 1.4 km will be built by the Capital Development Authority (CDA)
  • 2.4 km will be handled by the National Highway Authority (NHA)

This is a major milestone because it connects a key housing area (DHA Phase 3) to Sangjani. It will also lead to a smooth development extension towards the GT Road and M-1 Motorway.

Moreover, planning for the next 13.5 km stretch (Thalian to Hakla) is underway, which will be developed after this stage.

When Will the Rawalpindi Ring Road Be Completed?

As per the latest news from the official government’s sources, although the RRR project was initially planned ot be completed by the end of 2025, however, due to some uncertain reasons it has been delayed till March 2026. Besides the temporary delay, it is highly expected that the project will be completed by then and will be ready for all the benefits it has to offer. 

The project was initially proposed in 1997, but after certain delays and issues, it was relaunched between 2017-2020. However, after even more setbacks, the development was delayed till 2023. The construction was restored in 2023, continued till 2025, and the new completion deadline is set to be March 2026.
